日本出現「出租歐吉桑」的服務，在名為「歐吉桑出租」的官網上，有各種類型的歐吉桑任君挑選，每小時只要付1000日圓（約台幣253元），就可以叫看得順眼的歐吉桑來為你服務，原則上出租歐吉桑限定周六、假日出動。 在官網上有39歲至60歲，從事廣告設計、不動產業、餐飲業及老師等各行各業的歐吉桑，每個人都貼出相片和自我介紹文讓顧客挑選。
租來的歐吉桑可以陪你玩，陪你聊天，幫你跑腿、工作，陪你逛街買衣服，幫你做造型，甚至陪同消磨打發時間等。
要預約歐吉桑很簡單，只要將看上的歐吉桑丟進官網上的「購物車」，或是用skype、line的免費通話預約。約好見面地點後，歐吉桑會帶著ipad之類的物品現身，上頭貼有「出租歐吉桑」的貼紙，與顧客相認。
發起「出租歐吉桑」服務的是大阪府出身的服裝造型師，47歲的西本貴信。他年輕時曾在美國工作，返日後擔任百貨公司的造型師，也曾在大學和專門學校擔任講師。
西本2012年起開始在網上提供「出租歐吉桑」服務而引起媒體的注目，他的服務內容寫著，「希望能和更多人見面，所以每人限租1次。」
西本表示，利用此服務大多是20、30歲的年輕人，男女的比例是6比4。過去半年來歐吉桑出租次數已超過上千次，被拜託過的工作有，一起喝茶、擔任主辦餐會的幹事、陪新手駕駛開車上路、陪顧客看房子、聽顧客抱怨或負責不停稱讚顧客等。
